REPLACEMENT DRIVES FOR THE MIRAGE ------------------------------- TEAC FD235 CHINON FZ357 ----------------------------------------------------------------- TEAC FD235 This Information was provided to the Mirage-Net list by ktownson@bellsouth.net. jawknee (http://www.webcom.com/jawknee/Mirage/DriveReplacement/fd235hf.GIF) recommended the shorting blocks installed as in [x] below. It would seem that one needs to be aware of the fact that you should ONLY USE DOUBLE DENSITY DISCS in this drive. I've seen this same model number of drive without this large jumper block. 04/14/2001 - tried these settings with TEAC FD-235HF-3291U drives with success! Strap Function ------------------------------------- DS0 [x] DRIVE SELECT 0 input on Pin 10 DS1 DRIVE SELECT 0 input on Pin 12 DS2 DRIVE SELECT 0 input on Pin 14 DS3 DRIVE SELECT 0 input on Pin 6 *RY34 [x] READY output on Pin 34 *DC34 DISK CHANGE output on Pin 34 *DC2 DISK CHANGE output on Pin 2 *DC4 DISK CHANGE output on Pin 4 *HA [x] Density set automatically *HI2 Density set by HD IN on Pin 2 *HO2 HD OUT output on Pin 2 *HO4 HD OUT output on Pin 4 *LHI HD IN invert, LOW:2MB mode *LHO HD OUT invert, LOW:HD disk *HMK Half mask for INDEX/READ DATA *NMK No mask for INDEX/READ DATA *IR LED on: DRIVE SELECT * Ready *ML Motor on: MOTOR ON + LED on *ACD Disable for auto-chucking *REN [x] Enable for auto-recalibration **HF [x] 2MB/1MB dual modes FG [x] Short between FDD frame and DC0V Notes: 1. * straps overlap with other strap posts. Insert a short bar according to your priority. 2. **HF strap must be kept on-state for this FDD 3. You may select one of the two short bar position, (A) and (B), for the HF, LHI, and LHO straps. -------------------------------------- Kerry Townson also provided this drawing. The gray bars are the default settings for PC USE! NOT MIRAGE! See info above for placement of jumpers for Mirage. I drew in the jumper placements in red. ----------------------------------------------------------------- CHINON FZ-357 There's a 14 pin jumper block between the power and control connectors. 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 The drive appears to function properly with a total of 4 jumpers installed like this: 1 - between 09 and 10 2 - between 04 and 11 3 - between 06 and 13 4 - between 07 and 14 Again, DO NOT USE HIGH DENSITY (HD) FLOPPIES IN THIS DRIVE! It confuses the Mirage.
